Wistanswick Village Fete

This years Wistanswick Village Fete took place on July 26th 2003
The 2003 Wistanswick fete was held on the 26th July 2003 on the Village Green in Wistanswick. This years turn out was better than ever helped by the rain holding off for most of the afternoon.
We raised £2500 for the village!

(See the various competition results at the bottom of this page)

The outlook did not look great before the show. On the Friday morning our Children's activities marquee decided that rather than staying where it was it would much rather spend the weekend in the next field with the friendly cows! Luckily a team of willing fete committee members were willing to challenge the cows for ownership and retrieve the structure - despite bent poles and torn canvas it was repaired in time for Fete (Thanks to Alison with her trusty needle!)

This year we had a new PA system and I (Stephen relished in the opportunity to roam the site with the radio mics and embaras the stall holders with coments about what they were selling!). The PA system was provided by BSB Autec from Market Drayton who stayed with us all day to support the system and spend their much earned charge for the system at the fete!

Around £2500 was raised which is slightly more than last year(- £2300) but the committee had invested money in attractive new signs, a party size gazebo and a very effective loudspeaker system, all of which went towards the success of the day.
As usual there was a Horse Show which was well attended and included Showing, Jumping and a Fancy dress class. The Gymkana proved popular this year and the competition was intense. The increase in numbers was down to the effective advertising and distribution of schedules by the organisers. The Dog Show had its usual mixture of pedigree and fun classes which included best 6 legs, appealing face and waggiest tail! If you thought your dog was well behaved the the dog agility team put on an impressive display which had everyone
New to the show this year was a selection of vintage tractors, motorbikes and a wartime land rover. There was also a Murder Mystery game which had everyone guessing.
But to keep up with tradition Beat the Goalie, Skittles and Coconut shy were all still to be found together with tombola, a well supported cooks and gardener’s competition and refreshments in the local institute. The weather stayed fine until the end of the show and a wonderful day was had by all!

A big thank you to all those who who helped out both on and before the day. Without your help the event could not happen.
